The Rift Valley Festival is a three day musical event in a stunning location on the shores of Lake Naivasha in Kenya that will be held from the 26th to the 28th of March, 2010. Brothers Sean and Ivan Ross who are based between the UK and Kenya are at the heart of this event.
The brothers have years of experience promoting events in the UK and with deep roots in Kenya, they came up with the idea of a festival as the perfect means to celebrate on an international stage the richness of East African culture and music as well as promote the unity and beauty of Kenya, while helping local community projects.
The Rift Valley Festival will be an intimate gathering of local and international artists, combining traditional African roots and global styles.
It will provide a stage for established as well as developing talent, creating a fusion of musical influences with the very best independent acts and also create a platform for the exposure of local arts, crafts and culture.
The festival will also raise the profile of Kenya as a beautiful, safe, exciting tourist destination
The festival’s charitable ethos is to raise funds directly for the local community in the Lake Naivasha area. Profits from ticket sales will be used to help provide a clean, accessible water supply, improved sanitation and support projects promoting environmental awareness.
The organizers also plan to promote and distribute a recycled cooking fuel called “Moto poa” that will go towards limiting the use of charcoal, helping to reduce deforestation.
The artists that have been invited will help to create an event that is both inspiring, unique and the first of many. They include; Winyo, K-Force, DJ Fareed, 6am, Homboyz, Thabani, Sam Hardaker, Matt Leach, Yam Yam, Dave Storm, Racubah, DJ Seb and Ample Soundsystem.
